How to Say Key Spanish Phrases in a Taxi
Most taxis in Mexico are very economical. Some taxis can be dangerous and precautions should be taken. Get into a taxi marked with the sign "SITIO," preferably at an official taxi stand. Hotels and restaurants have the numbers to "taxi de sitio" so consider phoning one from these locations.

Wave down a taxi; sometimes it may take a while. When one stops say, "Gracias por parar," which means "Thank you for stopping."

Ask the cost per mile as a rough estimate of the final price. Use the phrase "Cuanto cobra por milla?"

Find out if the driver takes credit by asking, "Usted toma tarjeta de credito?" Then show your credit card to make sure your type is accepted.

Get in the taxi and tell the taxi driver your destination by using the words "Necesito llegar a ..." which means "I need to get to ...." Complete the end of the sentence with the name of the place you are going.
