How to Enjoy a Boat Ride Down the Rhine River in Germany

A Rhine river cruise is a great way to see many of the interesting port cities in Germany and some of the surrounding countries like The Netherlands, Austria and Hungary. The Rhine River, known as the Rhein in Germany, is a very important waterway. It connects Germany with many other countries in Western Europe. Some of Germany's most beautiful castles are located along the Rhine so the views from the boat are spectacular. Follow these steps to a memorable vacation.

      Decide on a date that you will be in Germany. June, July and August are the best time visit Germany. The weather is beautiful this time of year.

      Decide how long you want your cruise to be. The companies that run the cruises offer different packages. You can choose anywhere from a one-day trip to a month-long excursion.

      Fully research the area that you wish to travel in. Decide what cities you would like to visit and specifically, what sites in those cities you would like to experience.

      Search for a cruise that goes to the cities that you like. You may decide on a one-day trip down a very beautiful section of the Rhine that runs between Boppard and St. Goar or you can add on a side trip to the Mosel River in France (known as Moselle). Going through Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Budapest, Hungary are also options. There are many different combinations, so use your imagination.

      Book your travel and make sure you get to the port city that you are to depart from in plenty of time.
