      Buy your ticket to visit Neuschwanstein. You must buy your entrance ticket at the ticket centre in the village of Hohenschwangau.

      Decide how you want to get to the castle. From the village of Hohenschwangau, you can reach the castle by foot, bus or horse-drawn carriage.

      Walk up the mountain to the castle. It is about a 30-minute walk.

      Buy tickets for the horse-drawn carriage. You can purchase tickets at the Hotel Muller in the village of Hohenschwangau.

      Catch the bus up the mountain. The departure point is Schlosshotel Lisl in the village of Hohenschwangau. The bus will take you up the mountain and drop you off at a lookout point where it is a short 10 minute walk to the entrance of the castle.

Tips & Warnings

  • You must buy your tickets in the village below the castle, do not climb the mountain to the castle just to learn you cannot get in, as you can only buy tickets in the village below.

  • The only way to get to the castle is by foot, horse-drawn carriage or bus.

  • Neuschwanstein Castle is open most of the year but closed on January 1, December 24, 25 and 31. Check the Web site for opening and closing times.

  • The walk uphill to the castle is fairly steep and can be strenuous.

  • The downhill walk from the lookout point to the entrance of the castle is not suitable for the disabled or the elderly.

  • During the tour, you will have to climb 165 steps and descend 181 steps.
