Trout is a favorite freshwater fish for grilling, but it also bakes up beautifully at home. Here is a recipe that will turn out wonderfully every time.

From Quick Guide: Cooking Basics
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 6 cleaned and gutted trout fillets, about 12 ounces each
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 or 3 limes
  • Trout fillets
  • Limes
  • Salt
  • Aluminum foil
  • Cookie sheet
  • Butter
  • Pepper
  1. Step 1

Cut a piece of foil to fit your cookie sheet. Grease well with 1 Tbsp of butter.

  2. Step 2

    Arrange trout on greased foil.

  3. Step 3

Sprinkle liberally with salt and pepper on both sides. Dot the fish with the remaining butter.

  4. Step 4

Squeeze limes directly onto the fish.

  5. Step 5

Bake at 400 degrees F until the center is opaque, generally 10 to 15 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Feel free to add other spices to this basic recipe. Good choices include rosemary, garlic, thyme, basil, tarragon, dill or parsley. Sprinkle one or more on to taste at the same time you use salt and pepper.
  • You can adapt this recipe to cook nearly any other fish, especially trout's close relative, salmon.
  • Substitute lemons for the limes if you prefer them or do not have limes on hand.

on 4/17/2009 If you have fresh caught trout, just make sure you clean it properly, getting the "Mud Vein" out from the inside center of the fish, the dark line that is centered on the bones or you won't be happy with the taste! Once cooked, the skin with the scales will peel nicely off the meat, but also be carefull of the very tiny bones!
