4. Inspect trailers for sale in person, first checking the floor of the trailer for stability and sturdiness.

5. Look at all of the tires, including the spare.

6. Ensure that all of the trailer's wiring is working properly.

7. Be sure your horse will comfortably fit in the trailers you like.

8. Get a notarized bill of sale and the title before leaving with your "new" used trailer.

• Find a reputable trailer repair shop and have them inspect the floor and wiring for you if you are not familiar with that process

• Don't forget to add the new trailer onto your insurance policy as required in most states.

• Never put a down payment on a trailer that you have not looked at in person. There are many scams that offer to send you the trailer in exchange for a large down payment, only they never send the trailer and do not return the down payment.
