Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet
  • Newspaper
  • Phone book
Step1
Research the existing USAF specialty codes (AFSC) for detailed descriptions of the job fields where there are available openings.
Step2
Contact an area United States Air Force recruiter and set up an appointment to meet with them to discuss career options. To lessen the formal meetings, the meeting can take place in the potential recruit&s home or a meeting place that is conducive for a relaxed atmosphere.
Step3
Set up an appointment to take the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery. This test will determine job specialty codes for jobs that your test scores show you are qualified to hold.
Step4
Review all United States Air Force guidelines and standards for enlistment. In today&s United States Air Force, there are few occurrences for waivers. Consult with the recruiter to discuss all of these options.
Step5
Meet with medical and dental representatives at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) to have a through and diagnostic medical and dental examination and evaluation.
Step6
Examine the service contract. Proofread the entire length of the service contract. Any services guarantees that were made by the United States Air Force recruiter must be contained in the contract. All extra incentives such as increased pay, location of assignments and time in service should be annotated on the contract before you sign anything.
Step7
Recite your oath. Raise right hand and reiterate the words of the enlisting officer. This is your first act as a member of the United States Air Force. Aim High!

Tips & Warnings

  • When selecting job specialty codes, do not pick only one. Pick several. That will make it easier to transition from civilian. It allows the Air Force to place you in several types of skills.
