Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet
  • Newspaper
  • Phone book

Step1
Research the available jobs (ratings) that are in service. There are a total of 75 job specialties in which the United States Navy has available to aspiring enlistees. Some ratings contain enlistment bonuses and other do not.
Step2
Visit your local United States Navy recruiter. Location of the recruiter can be accomplished by using the Web, local paper or using your local telephone book.
Step3
Complete the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). Your score will determine your eligibility for specific job ratings.
Step4
Review job ratings that are being offered after the ASVAB has been scored and reviewed. Your recruiter will determine what ratings are available. This is essential to secure your place at a technical school after completion of United States Navy Boot Camp.
Step5
Ensure all requirements, age, citizenship, financial, education as well as medical and dental health.
Step6
Complete the United States Navy physical. This is another vital step in this process. Your potential enlistment in the United States Navy is not complete until a proper physical is conducted.
Step7
Review the service contract. Read line by line of the contract. Pay particular attention to Section B. This contains all promises or guarantees that were made by the recruiter. These promises include guaranteed A School, enlistment bonuses, length of service, specific pay grade information and possible retention bonuses.
Step8
Recite the Oath of Enlistment. Repeat the words of the enlisting officer and thoroughly enjoy your service in the great United States Navy!

Tips & Warnings

  • When taking ASVAB examination, answer questions in a timely manner. Each section is given in timed periods.
  • Be honest and truthful in all your dealings with the recruiter. The United States Navy has core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment and takes them very seriously.
