Whether you're in the midst of your college experience, or you and the guys are reliving some of the glory days and partying "old school," the keg stand is as American as apple pie. While it's a lot of fun, it is also important that the keg stand be performed safely. Here are some tips to help you accomplish a safe keg stand during a party.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Tap the keg. Pour a couple glasses of beer from your newly tapped keg, just to make sure the tap is working properly.
Step2
Gather your buddies. Find three friends that you trust and who will be able to support your body weight and hold you up. Also be sure to establish a visual "get-me-down" signal that you will be able to give them when you are done drinking beer from your keg stand.
Step3
Prime the tap. Give the tap a few good pumps so that the beer is ready to flow!
Step4
Grasp the handles of the keg. Meanwhile two of the three friends (who should be the strongest of the group) should grab your legs around the knees while you simultaneously bend at the waist. On the count of three, push onto your arms while "throwing" your legs skyward. (Your legs will be aided by two of your three friends "lifting"). Now you should be in a complete upright position.
Step5
Consume beer! The best part and the brass ring of this party trick. While upside down have the third friend open the tap and help you place it in your mouth. Drink as much beer as you can while the crowd and your friends cheer you on.
Step6
Give the signal. Once you've had your fill of beer, give the pre-determined "get-me-down" signal and trust in your friends as they help lower you to the ground slowly so that you are once again upright.
Step7
Wipe your mouth and say "Ahhh!" You did it! Your very first keg stand!

Tips & Warnings

  • If you weigh more than the average person, you may need to use additional lifters.
  • The handles of the keg may be exceedingly cold from the surrounding ice bucket. If so, place a towel or dishrag over them. This will also keep your hand from slipping.
  • It is illegal for people under twenty-one to consume alcohol in the United States.
  • Always drink responsibly, be sure to designate a driver if driving is involved and never drink and drive.
