Installing aftermarket lighting in your car can add a personal touch at an affordable price. Placing neon tubes under your car seats is a great way to add a stylish glow near your feet, but can be a little tricky.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Neon tubes
  • Zip ties

Getting Started

Step1
Pick a neon color based on personal preference. Be creative and use whatever color suits your own personal color scheme.
Step2
Purchase a pair of 4 inch neon tubes. These can be found at your local automotive store or some large retail stores.

Installing the Neon Tubes

Step1
Look underneath your seats and determine which parts move when the seat moves.
Step2
Avoid these moving parts when routing the wires or placing the neon tubes.
Step3
Remove the neon tubes from the packaging and stretch out the wires.
Step4
Place neon under the seat you wish it to be under and attach it to the seat with two plastic zip ties.
Step5
Route the wires past the moving parts and toward the exterior of the car.
Step6
Continue routing the wire underneath the plastic door molding. You should not need to remove the molding, simply push the wires underneath it.
Step7
Plug the power adapter into your cigarette lighter.

Tips & Warnings

  • If wires are still showing you will need to pop off the door molding and place the wires farther underneath.
  • Refer to eHow article "How to Connect Aftermarket Car Lighting" for permanent wiring instructions.
  • Be sure to leave excess wire to allow for movement of the seats. If not you will damage your lighting.

on 9/26/2007 yes, u can splice into a wire connected to your ignition, so it goes off when the car is off, attach it to a swith so its not always on, and attach the other wire to ground.

on 8/17/2007 This is awesome... I have two neons in my corolla right now. Unfortantly, it's really awkward to try to use the neons in car with just the cigarette lighter. Is there a way to connect these directly into the fuse box with a switch?
