Things You'll Need:
- DVDs
- Storage area
-
Step 1
Decide on a method for categorizing your collection. Some options include movie genre, alphabetically, chronologically or grouped by favorite or shared actors.
-
Step 2
Clean or repair any discs or cases that need attention. This will ensure that your newly organized collection will look neat and well kept.
-
Step 3
Choose a storage space for your collection and assemble any necessary shelving, racks or stands. Be sure to choose a space that will limit exposure of your DVDs to potentially harmful elements such as sunlight, dust and pet hair.
-
Step 4
Sort your DVD collection according to the criteria you chose in Step One. If this task is overwhelming because your collection is particularly large, it may be helpful to do this in stages.
-
Step 5
Subcategorize your DVDs if desired. For example, if organizing your movies by genre, you may also wish to sort them chronologically within each genre.
-
Step 6
Place your newly organized DVD collection in its storage space.
-
Step 7
Enjoy your movies!

on 3/8/2009 For me one of the biggest keys was choosing the "space" to organize my DVDs (and CDs). I bought a custom media cabinet from www.diamondcase.com to fit in a niche beside my fireplace. You can read more about their media solutions here: http://diamondcase.com/Knowledge/Knowledge_HTML/Media_Storage.HTMLHope it helps.

on 3/24/2008 This is not TRUE organization. If you have a movie collection, you can organize it by using a site like http://www.moviecollectorplus.com
If you are using title, genre, etc. to organize, you are always rearranging movies. Save yourself this work by organizing using the ID number given to your movie when you add it to your collection. Basically, this arranges your movies in the order you get them. Having a catalog or list of your movies, which you can sort, print and search makes finding any movie easy.
