The proposal was to die for. You have your ring, you have each other, but now you just need to find a place to get married! While finding a location in Connecticut for your wedding may seem like a daunting task, it really isn't. The state is lush with possibilities. From the ocean to the countryside, you really can't go wrong. Here are a few tips to make the search a little easier.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine what kind of wedding you'd like to hold. For many couples this comes down to a decision of holding a religious versus civil ceremony. Depending on your faith, you may also be able to hold a religious ceremony away from your place of worship. This is a discussion you and your fiancée should have right off the bat, so that you are on the same page when narrowing your search.

  2. Step 2

Pick the area. While Connecticut is not a large state by any means, it is still made up of many diverse counties. It might help to narrow your search by picking an area of the state on which you'd like to focus. Think of your guests, their travel and what might be a convenient location for all parties involved. Ultimately, it is your day, so while you should keep others in mind, don't sacrifice what you want!

  3. Step 3

Surf the web. With the Internet continuing to be the comprehensive research tool, this is the best place to begin to narrow your search. Hopefully you've narrowed the location for your wedding down to a general area of the state in which you'd like to get married. As you surf the net, start with a list of five places you'd like to visit.

  4. Step 4

Contact the locations. Almost all locations require an appointment. Call ahead and schedule an appointment that is convenient for both you and your fiancée.

  5. Step 5

Go to the appointment. Once arriving on time, keep an open mind as you view the locations. Also keep a list, whether mental or written down, of the pros and cons of each venue. That way when you return home you can compare and contrast.

  6. Step 6

Ask questions. Number of guests allowed, location fee, which days are open, and whether there are multiple weddings occurring on that day. The more questions you ask regarding what it's like to get married in their venue, the better informed you'll be and the better decision you'll make.

  7. Step 7

Have fun! Don't stress! The magic of the day is not the location, but the two of you. While some wedding locations are certainly better than others, that fact you're getting married is what's important.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask for references. Each location should be able to provide with a list of people who have been married there before. Call some people on the list and ask them about their experience.
  • Read the contract. Don't just sign your life away. Every location will have special provisions with regard to liabilities, alcohol, noise and so on. Be familiar with them so you are not surprised.
