Case Western Reserve University is the result of a merger between the Case Institute of Technology and the Western Reserve University in 1967. Western Reserve College opened in 1826 with a focus on the classics. In 1882 Western Reserve College moved to Cleveland, hoping to increase its size while educating Cleveland's community. The Case School of Applied Science was born in the early 1880s in Cleveland. After many years of joint projects, the two schools decided to combine.
