The Palm Pilot is used by many people to store calendar information and contacts. With Outlook being so widely used, it is extremely helpful to know how to synchronize both of these organizers so that you have all of your information accessible from either tool. It can be time consuming and frustrating to have to manually enter information into one program to make it match the other program.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Palm Pilot Manual
  • Palm Pilot Z22
  • Microsoft Outlook
  • Computer
  • Palm Pilot disc
  • Palm Pilot USB cable
  1. Step 1

Install the Palm Pilot software if you have not already done so by inserting the disc that came with the Palm Pilot. Follow the install instructions once the disc is running.

  2. Step 2

Open the palm desktop program and select "custom " from the "Hotsync" menu. Next you select which device will override the other in each category. The important categories to look at for the Outlook synchronization are the contacts, calendar, notes and tasks.

  3. Step 3

Connect the USB cable that came with the Palm Pilot. Plug one end into the USB drive on the computer and the other end into the Z22. Do this only after the setup in the previous step is complete.

  4. Step 4

Tap on the Hotsync button which is the upper right icon on your icons menu located at the bottom of your Palm Pilot. This will start the synchronization process on both the Z22 and the computer. You will see a box on the computer monitor as it processes the sync.

  5. Step 5

Unplug the USB cable once the synchronization is done. If any problems occurred with the sync, a box will appear on the computer monitor that will ask if you want do see the log. Open the log to see information about the problems. Use the manual or help feature to diagnose the problems.

  6. Step 6

Open Outlook and spot check some information to make sure everything went smoothly, even if there were not any problems with the synchronization. If something is not synchronizing right, you want to catch this before you lose any valuable entries. Do the same with the Palm Pilot.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have lost the original disc that came with the Palm Pilot, you can go to the manufacturer's site and order another one, if they still make it for that particular model.
  • Your Outlook does not have to be open during this process.
  • Always spot check after every sync, even if you have not had any problems before. One bad synchronization can cause a lot of valuable entries to disappear.
