Keeping a boy's hair from getting out of hand can mean biweekly visits to the barber. Or you can cut his hair at home. Providing a simple haircut for a boy can save time and money.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Hair clipper kit
  • Chair
  • Broom
  1. Step 1

Purchase a hair clipper kit. Make sure the kit has guide combs of different lengths so you can give a simple crew cut or maintain other short haircuts.

  2. Step 2

Get a chair and find an easy to clean location for cutting hair. Rooms with laminated or hardwood floors work best. Or, if your clippers use batteries, take the chair outside.

  3. Step 3

Use the guide combs to determine the right length for the haircut. Run the guide combs through the boy's hair to check the length. Attach the appropriate guide comb to the clippers.

  4. Step 4

Start at the base of the boy's hairline at his neck and cut upwards. To ensure an even length, keep an even pressure on the clippers as you go. Keep a steady pace so you don't miss any hairs.

  5. Step 5

Brush off the clippers and comb through the boy's hair every so often to keep the clippers from clogging and ensure that you are not missing any hairs.

  6. Step 6

After the simple haircut, you still need to trim. Remove the guide comb from the clippers and cautiously use the clippers to trim around the boy's ears. Hair clipper kits often come with guide combs designed for trimming around the ears. If yours doesn't, keep the clippers at an angle so that only a few teeth are cutting the hair as you follow the curvature of his ear.

  7. Step 7

Trim around the boy's neck. Use the clippers to following his natural hairline from ear to ear. Try to keep your line straight. If you are worried about keeping it straight, start at the ears and have the line meet in the middle. Trim the back of his neck below the hairline.

  8. Step 8

Comb through the boy's hair. Check for left over long hairs and use the trimming scissors to cut these.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a more tapered haircut, use different guide combs in decreasing lengths. Make sure to start with the longest.
  • Oil the hair clippers to keep them running smoothly.
  • Use a slick rain jacket or cape to help keep the cut hair from clinging to clothes.
