London is a big, bulging and exciting city, but when you are visiting with a family, it can be very tiring trying to keep them all happy! This is a plan of what you could do in one day in London, with a variety of ideas which everyone can enjoy.

From Quick Guide: Travel London
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Map of London
  • Comfortable shoes
  1. Step 1

Buy a family one day Travel Card at any Underground (Tube) Station. It's cheaper as well as more convenient. Ride the Tube to Waterloo on the Northern Line (the black line on the Tube maps).

  2. Step 2

Follow the signs to York Road and find the London Duck Tours. This is a little yellow bus that takes you on a tour of London on land before plunging into the River Thames! The tours go twice an hour and take about 75 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Get on the Tube from Waterloo to Embankment (Northern Line). Change at Embankment onto the District Line (the Green line on the Tube maps).

  4. Step 4

Disembark at South Kensington. Follow the signs to the Science Museum and have a wonderful time.

  5. Step 5

Walk back to South Kensington station and have lunch. There are many places to choose from which are children-friendly.

  6. Step 6

Go back to Waterloo and give your family the chance to see what they saw earlier, only this time from a great height on the London Eye! This is the world's tallest observation ferris wheel, with amazing views of London.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can go to as many museums as you like in South Kensington as there are many to choose from, though the Science Museum has more activities for children.
  • You can save on money by bringing a picnic with you rather than eating out. Hyde Park is just around the corner from the museums.
  • The Family Travel Card only works if your children are under 12. If they are over 12, but are under 15, they can get a children's rail card.
  • Museums are very tiring and time-consuming, so plan to take one whole day for the museums in South Kensington.
