How to Find the Fastest Route to a Local Destination
Many of us drive to and from the same destination multiple times throughout the week. This could be work, school, a friend's house or any number of similar places. For these destinations, you should find the easiest, fastest and least stressful route. It can put some time back into our busy life or simply relieve some stress.

1
Pick a destination that you travel to most frequently. Follow the same route and time how long it takes you at least 5 separate times.
-
2
Observe how much traffic there is and how often you find yourself getting worked up over bad traffic, long lights and anything else that might make you a little stressed.
-
-
3
Leave earlier or later using the same route. If you normally drive during rush hour, leaving a few minutes earlier or later can make a huge difference in your drive time.
-
4
Map out alternate routes you can take to your destination. Either use your knowledge of the streets or look at a map. Do not rule out any routes just because it is more miles. It could be quicker if there is less traffic and lights, or if the speed limit is higher.
-
5
Try each alternate route for at least a whole week. Time the drive as well as the stress level you have when driving on these routes. If you need to be at a place by a certain time, be sure to leave early in case the alternate route takes longer than you expect.
-
6
Decide which route you like. If you hate lights, school zones, railroad tracks or anything else like that, you probably want to find a route that avoids all those things. Even if it takes a little longer to get there.
-
7
Test alternate routes every once in awhile. Do not pick one and stick to it forever. Roads and traffic are always changing and evolving and sometimes speed limits change also.

Tips & Warnings
Always drive the same speed relative to the speed limit when testing out alternate routes. Keep it consistent so you can get an accurate reading.
Sometimes different routes are better for different times of the day or week.
