How to Pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary

We gain a glimpse into the life of the Holy Family as we pray the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary. We see they had the same joys and sorrows that we have in our own families. By praying these mysteries, we can understand how to make our way in this difficult world. These Holy Mysteries are to be said on Mondays and Saturdays throughout the year and on Sundays during the Lenten and Christmas seasons.

Picture a simple peasant girl sitting in her garden as you reflect on the first Joyful Mystery, "The Annunciation." An Angel appears and tells her she is to become the mother of God. What a joyous occasion!

Think about what the second Joyful Mystery, "The Visitation," is saying to us. Mary has just found out she is pregnant with the Son of God, and she is not even married yet. It is hard to imagine what could have happened to her at that time. It was certainly a dangerous situation to be in. However, Mary isn't concerned with what may be thought of her. She rushes off to care for her cousin who is pregnant and stays with her until her kinswoman's child is born. That is true charity.

Comprehend the fact that God, the all-powerful creator of this world , humbled Himself to become a helpless little baby when reflecting on the third mystery, "The Birth of Our Lord."

Remember your own baptism and confirmation when praying the Fourth Mystery, "The Presentation of the Child, Jesus at the Temple." In baptism you were probably presented to God by your parents. When receiving confirmation, you presented yourself. Even Jesus, the Son of God, was expected to follow the laws and precepts of the Jewish religion. He was obedient even though He was God Himself.

Imagine losing your young child on a journey when envisioning the fifth Joyous Mystery, "The Finding of the Child, Jesus in the Temple." Envision others saying, "But I thought he was with you!" The joy of finding Him must have been overwhelming. Not only was he fine, He was preaching to the rabbis! His wisdom amazed all even at such an early age.
