How to Make a Cross-Stitch Pattern

Cross-stitching is a fun and creative way to make gifts or decorate your home. Sometimes, however, you may want a particular theme or picture that you cannot find a pattern for. Here are some easy steps to add your own personal touch to your projects.

Things You'll Need

• Plain pattern paper or transparent tissue paper
• Marking pen or pencil
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Purchase plain, pattern-making paper or translucent tissue paper.

2. Place it over the picture you would like for a pattern and trace the outline onto the tissue paper.

3. Cut approximately 1/2 inch around the drawn pattern and pin to the fabric you would like to cross-stitch.

4. Place in hoop, and begin to stitch the pattern, using your choice of colors.

Tips & Warnings

• It is always a good idea to photocopy the traced pattern onto regular copy paper before cutting and pinning, in case you would like to use the pattern again.

• Make sure that the pattern is pinned firmly in place.
