Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Level Concrete Slab
- Terracotta Outdoor Floor Tiles
- Tile Sealant
- Tropical Looking Plants
- Time
Step1
Measure your old concrete slab patio so you know how many tiles you'll need.
Step2
Visit your home improvement store and purchase enough terra cotta style tiles to cover your patio. Consider purchasing about 10% extra for mistakes or breakage. Also purchase the adhesive to stick them to the concrete slab, the correct mortar to apply between them, and a good sealant to apply once finished.
Step3
Spread the adhesive on the concrete slab per the instructions with the product.
Step4
Apply the tiles evenly to the adhesive coated concrete slab. Make sure you have reference points marked so you know you're on track and staying in a straight line. Wait until completely dry.
Step5
Add any necessary mortar between the tiles. Again, follow the exact directions that come with your specific mortar. Wait until completely dry. Then, complete a second application if needed.
Step6
Coat the entire patio with a good epoxy-like sealer.
Step7
Plant the tropical style greenery in predetermined locations surrounding your patio.
Step8
Place a wrought iron or similar style furniture set on your patio. Find cushions that match the tropical theme.
Step9
Find the perfect accessories and decor that matches both your patio and your taste. Think eclectic and maybe consider items acquired from any of your past travels. That way, every piece will have a story.
Step10
Invite your friends over and have a patio party! Enjoy!

on 6/14/2007 My roommate recently developed a fondness for having plants around the house. Our back patio is perfect for this project - thanks for the suggestions!
