How to Attend a Gun Auction

Gun auctions are a place where gun buyers and sellers come together to make a deal on firearms. Guns ranging from antiques and collectibles to guns designed for personal protection may be available at a gun auction. Gun auctions can be a public event open to anyone allowed to legally buy or sell guns, or they can be private invite-only events hosted by gun dealers, brokers and private estates.

Explore your gun auction options. There are public gun auctions, gun auctions sponsored by brokers or gun dealers and listings at the National Auction List website (see Resources below).

      • 2

Search for a gun auction on an Internet auction database. Check for gun and firearms auctions in your area.

      • 3

Be prepared to pay an entrance fee at a gun auction. Contact the auction for fee information prior to the event.

      • 4

Call ahead to get details about the payment methods acceptable at the gun auction you plan to attend. Take all proper identification with you to the auction to avoid difficulty purchasing or paying for items.

      • 5

Travel to the gun auction. Leave large bags, carts and cameras outside of the auction area. Check with the auction house before attending and note other special considerations for attendance.

      • 6

Visit an online gun auction website. Browsing gun auction websites on the Internet is free, and many auction websites provide a free registration process for selling or bidding on a gun.

      • 7

Consider bidding at an auction through an absentee, mail, online or live phone bidding systems. There are often many options available for people who cannot physically attend an auction. Call an auction you are interested in bidding at and ask about alternative bidding opportunities available.
