Attend a Comic Book Convention Like a Pro

  1. Step 1

Find out where and when the conventions are held. Check out the Comic Book Conventions website for an extensive list of upcoming conventions throughout North America (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Bring enough money. With all of the items available to buy at a comic book convention, it is easy to spend all of your money in a short amount of time. Plus, there are often special events held at conventions that cost extra, and you may not find out about these until you arrive.

  3. Step 3

Set a limit. You can avoid going broke by determining in advance how much you are willing to spend on comic books, toys and other items while at the convention. Then, stick to this limit (no matter how tempted you are to forget about it).

  4. Step 4

Plot your fun. Upon arriving at the convention, get a schedule. These will usually be available at the door. The schedule shows the times and locations for all of the events being held at the convention. Take a few moments to go over the schedule and draw up a rough plan of what you want to do. It will save you confusion later on.

  5. Step 5

Dress sensibly. You are going to be doing a lot of walking at the convention. Wearing comfortable shoes and loose-fitting clothing will make your day more pleasant. If the convention is being held indoors, you might want to bring a sweater or light jacket, just in case the air conditioning is set to 'arctic.'

Tips & Warnings
  • Though not strictly necessary to attend the convention, bringing an autograph book and pen with you is a great idea. Celebrity guests are common features of comic book conventions. If you want a lasting memento of your encounter with them, you'll need an autograph book on hand.
