How to Select Dinosaur Excavation Kits

There are few better ways to introduce young people to the fun and excitement of learning than with dinosaur excavation kits. These unique toys introduce children to a world of fossils and archeology from which they can develop a lifelong passion. Dinosaur excavation kits come with everything you'll need to dig up skeletons of long extinct reptiles.

Instructions

  1. Select Different Dinosaur Excavation Kits

    • 1

Select a dinosaur fossil excavation kit. These kits come with a very authentic looking dinosaur skeleton and all the tools your little paleontologist will need to unearth it. There are several different dinosaur fossils to choose from at sites like StoreforKnowledge.com (see Resources below).

    • 2

Opt instead for a dinosaur egg excavation kit. Rather than unearthing a dinosaur directly from the ground or a piece of replica ground, egg excavation kits contain replica dino eggs that are carefully opened to reveal a fully intact baby dinosaur skeleton. Kits come with all tools included.

    • 3

Choose a dinosaur nest excavation kit. Nest excavation kits combine the fun of the other two types. Use the included tools to reveal a dinosaur nest of just hatched babies emerging from their eggs. After you're done unearthing the nest, this kit makes a great display item. Simple mount it on the included base and proudly show it where everyone can see your child's achievement.

    • 4

Consider whether or not you actually want to dig up a replica fossil, nest or egg from the earth. It's not really required, but it can add an extra dimension of realism and fun if you have the yard space to do so. For city dwellers, each kit comes complete with everything you'll need and there is no yard space required.

    • 5

Select dinosaur excavation kits that are age appropriate. Guidelines will tell you what age range the kit is designed for. Kids that are too young will not have the attention span to carefully brush aside dust to slowly reveal a dinosaur fossil and they won't have the manual dexterity to use the tools.

Tips & Warnings

  • Subtly mark a spot in the ground so you can easily find where you've buried your dinosaur fossil, if you choose to bury one outside. It is not necessary to do so to enjoy a dinosaur excavation kit.

  • If you do decide to dig up a dino fossil from outside, wash it thoroughly before bringing it into the house.
