How to Interpret Chinese Astrology Charts

A Zi Wei Dou Shu astrological chart is similar to a Western astrology chart in that it is divided into 12 houses (sometimes called palaces). The chart is interpreted by reading both beneficial and detrimental stars that fall in each house.

Interpret Chinese Astrology Charts

1. Start understanding a Chinese astrology chart by learning the meaning of the 12 houses. Each house represents one aspect of your life. Most of the houses are clearly defined, relating to such areas as Health, Children and Wealth. The Life Palace represents the personality and foretells a person's destiny.

2. Study the stars. Depending on the discipline of thought, there are between 99 and 115 stars used on Chinese astrology charts, each representing some facet of your life. These stars are mathematical symbols that represent different energies that affect your life experience.

3. Look for patterns. Often the patterns created are more important than individual stars on the chart.

4. Interpret a Chinese astrology chart with plenty of intuition. Compare patterns and groupings. Look at how the stars fall in corresponding houses. Chinese astrology leaves more room to meditate on the results than traditional Western astrology does.

Tips & Warnings

• You will need to determine your basic animal sign and its elements for a complete reading. The chart is read differently depending on your gender and whether you were born in a yin or yang year. Men born in yang year and women born in yin year read the chart clockwise. A man born in yin year and a woman born in yang year should read the chart counter-clockwise.
• The different methods used in Chinese astrology can be blended together to create a thorough reading.
