How to Choose a Baby Name Based on Numerology

  1. Step 1

Determine the numerology number of a possible baby first name by pairing it with the child's last name. A name, or destiny, number is reached using a full name and an alphanumeric numerology chart, which is found in numerology references, such as Astrology-Numerology.com (see Resources below). The letters of the alphabet are given numeric coordinates, and a final name number is determined using digit summing.

  2. Step 2

Get the name number for Mary Smith. The corresponding numbers on the numerology chart are 4, 1, 9 and 7 for Mary and 1, 4, 9, 2 and 8 for Jones. Add the two sets of numbers together: 4+1+9+7=21 and 1+4+9+2+8=24. Add the two sums together: 21+24=45. Add the two digits together: 4+5=9. Nine is Mary's name number.

  3. Step 3

Look up the traits associated with the name number in a trusted numerology reference. You'll learn about potential positive and negative personality characteristics, which people and places will be the most compatible and even lucky colors and gems.

  4. Step 4

Choose names based on the traits you favor, or look for names with numbers that, when added to the last name, would equal a name number with the characteristics you desire. Read more numerology theory to find out how given names affect our destinies.

Tips & Warnings
  • Read up on numerology before perusing baby name lists so you will know what you are looking for.
  • Digit summing is the basic formula for determining "core" numerology numbers. It is a method of reducing two-digit numbers to single digits.
  • Although some math skill is required, numerology only requires a basic understanding of it.
  • The numerology of names is meant as a guide for life, not a prediction of the future.
