Savage Worlds is a role playing game released in 2003 that is designed to be played much faster than traditional role playing games. The game offers most of the character development options of full blown role playing games, but it omits the less important rules that usually slow down game play. The result is a game that can easily handle massively large scale battles between the players.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Copy of Savage Worlds
  • Two or more players
  • Adventurer's sheet
  • Role playing dice

Step1
Gather together your friends to play the game. You will need at least two people, but it is better if you have more.
Step2
Choose who will be the Game Master. This person will be in charge of the game and is responsible for establishing some of the rules.
Step3
Locate the adventurer's sheet that comes with the game. This sheet allows you to track all the data about the character you create. You will fill out the name and rank of your character, along with the skill level in each of the attributes and skills available.
Step4
Decide which race you want your character to be from. You may choose any race available in the game setting that you are playing. Some races have special abilities, such as being aquatic or able to fly.
Step5
Roll the dice to determine the skill level your character will have in each of the traits and skills provided in the game. Your character will start at level 4 (the lowest level) in each trait and you have 5 points available to raise each trait. Going up one level will cost 1 point.
Step6
Decide whether to have your character accept one or more of the hindrances that you can pick from. Hindrances may negatively impact your character during the course of the game. In return, you receive an additional skill point to raise your traits for each hindrance you accept.

Tips & Warnings

  • Download a free version of the game directly from the publisher. While it isn't as comprehensive as the full version you can purchase, it will allow you to see how the Savage Worlds style of play works. See Resources below.
  • Since Savage Worlds is an easy game to learn, invite your friends who have never played a role playing game to try playing with you.
