Step 1
Look through the instruction manual that comes with the game. Jade Empire requires some time to learn how to play, so becoming familiar with the rules and operations will shorten the learning curve. If you purchased a used copy that did not include the manual, you can view a free game guide at GameFAQs (see Resources below).

Step 2
Learn the exploration controls. Use the left thumbstick to move your character and the right thumbstick to control the camera. The "A" button will cause your character to perform an action, such as talking or picking up an object. Use the "B" button to tumble. To toggle running on and off, use the "Y" button. Toggle the mini-map on and off by using the "X" button.

Step 3
Learn the combat controls. The left thumbstick controls your movement while the right thumbstick changes the camera view. Press "A" to attack and "B" to block. Perform a power attack with the "X" button. Switch the target of your attack to the left and right by pressing the corresponding triggers.

Decide which character you would like to play. There are 6 to choose from in the regular edition of the game, and 7 in the limited edition version.

Step 5
Enhance your character's skills by distributing 4 ability points. You can enhance the characters body, spirit and mind.

Choose the martial arts style that your character will have. You can pick from "Thousand Cuts," "Leaping Tiger," "White Demon" and "Legendary Strike."

Save your character and start participating in quests.
