Things You'll Need:
- Deck of cards
-
Step 1
Place your initial bets (if required). The two players to the left of the dealer must ante up with either the small or large blinds that are in place at the time. All other players do not bet at this time.
-
Step 2
Deal three cards to each player face down. These are called the hole cards.
-
Step 3
Discard one of the three hole cards. Each player must decide which card they want to discard. This is done before seeing any community cards.
-
Step 4
Place the second round of bets. Each person who wants to continue playing must match the large blind ante. If they do not want to bet, they must fold their hand. The person who bet the small blind can choose to match the large blind, or fold their hand and lose the small blind bet. Players can raise the bet above the large blind if they choose. If this happens, then each player must match the current high bet to remain in the game.
-
Step 5
Put three cards down in the middle of the table face up. This is called the flop and is done by the dealer. The three cards are community cards that everyone can use to create their best poker hand.
-
Step 1
Place bets after the flop. You can either check, which means you neither bet nor fold, you can raise your current bet, or you can fold your hand and lose whatever you have bet so far. If someone raises, all players who want to continue playing must match the raise.
-
Step 2
Put one more card down in the center. This is called the turn and is done by the dealer. There are now four community cards on the table for players to use.
-
Step 3
Place bets after the turn. Your choices are to raise, check or fold.
-
Step 4
Put the final community card down on the table. This final card is called the river and is also done by the dealer. There are now five community cards on the table.
-
Step 5
Place final bets based on the best five-card hand you can create from the five community cards and the two hole cards.
-
Step 6
Turn your two hole cards over to see who has the best hand.
