There are easy ways to get your dog's attention!

Getting your dog's attention is one of the most important steps when it comes to obedience training. Getting your dog's attention is the foundation for all of your obedience. I will show you how to do it with an easy training trick.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Treats
  1. Step 1

Get a hold of some tasty treats that you know your dog really enjoys. You may have to test some out.

  2. Step 2

Start with your dog on the leash. Use the normal leash he is used to. Say your dog's name and hold a treat up by your eyes.

  3. Step 3

Once your dog is looking at your face, verbally praise your dog and see if you can hold your dog's attention for a few seconds.

  4. Step 4

Once your dog has been looking at you for a few seconds, give your dog the treat and praise your dog. As you practice, see if you can get your dog to look at you for longer and longer periods.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always get your dog's attention before you give your dog a command.
  • If your dog fails to do a command there is a good chance that you don't have your dog's attention.
  • Make sure you use treats that your dog really likes.
