How to Sew a Boy Scout Patch on a Uniform

Sewing Boy Scout patches on can be an easy task if done right. To make sure your Scout's uniform passes inspection, sew the patches on so they will stay in place. Pull out your sewing machine and get to work.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Select the patches you want to add to the Boy Scout uniform.

  2. Step 2

    Decide where to put the patches. Boy Scouts have specific places for special patches. Check with your Boy Scout leader or handbook for information on these patches. You can also have your boy scout help you with this. It might just earn him another patch.

  3. Step 3

    Lay the uniform on a flat service. If necessary, iron the uniform to get it as straight as possible.

  4. Step 4

    Place the patch on the uniform and use masking tape to hold it in place.

  5. Step 5

    Attach the patch use a sewing machine with clear thread. Use a tight backstitch at the beginning and end to hold the slippery thread in place.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat the steps for any other patches that need to be sewed into place.

Tips & Warnings
  • A lot of Boy Scouts run out of room on their uniform. They may use a sash, patch blanket or pillow to display their patches.
