How to Learn Hot Air Ballooning

The earliest form of controlled flight was in hot air balloons, and this form of travel continues to be an exciting way to see the world. For those truly dedicated, it can be the basis for international competition. It is also the source of some of the most majestic and beautiful pictures imaginable, both looking up and looking down.

  1. Step 1

    Learn about the Balloon Federation of America, an organization "dedicated to the art, sport and science of Ballooning" and the Official Sanctioning Body for America's team to the International Ballooning competition.

  2. Step 2

    Buy a hot air balloon ride to experience the sensation and see if it appeals to you.

  3. Step 3

    Find a school that teaches hot air balloon piloting.

  4. Step 4

    While learning to pilot a balloon, consider crewing for a team. Sometimes, crewing proves to be a more enjoyable part of the experience than piloting.
