Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Walking shoes
  • Maps of the area
  • Bottled water
  1. Step 1

Research which cities are of interest of you. After you have determined the city in which you will take the tour, research the history of the area through the public library and the Internet to determine which landmarks and sites you would like to see on the historical tour.

  2. Step 2

Find tour companies. Many cities have tour companies that will guide you through historical areas. Using the Internet and yellow pages, locate a tour company and book your historical tour. Of course, you can choose to tour without a guide, which can also be quite fun.

  3. Step 3

Pick a date. If you are going to an area that attracts a lot of tourists, you may want to choose a weekday rather than a weekend date. Select a date and book the tour, if necessary.

  4. Step 4

Plan for the weather. Historical tours require a lot of walking outdoors, so check the weather and plan to dress accordingly.

  5. Step 5

Get maps for the historical tour of your choice from the tour company, library or city Chamber of Commerce.

  6. Step 6

Stick to a timeline. The day of your planned tour, you can make sure to see all the sites that you want to visit by sticking to a set schedule.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to always wear comfortable walking shoes and carry bottled water to avoid dehydration.
  • Don't carry much money. Bring only the money you'll need for the tour and be aware of your surroundings. Some tourists areas are high in crime, particularly pickpocketing.
  • Don't push yourself by doing too much. If you feel yourself tiring, don't hesitate to take a break.
