Things You'll Need:

  • Resume
  • Persistance
  1. Step 1

Evaluate your goals for the internship. Ask yourself the following questions: What do you need to help your career? Why do you want an internship? Where would you like to do your internship? Do you want college credit for your internship? Can you do an unpaid internship or does it need to be paid?

  2. Step 2

Prepare a resume. Write a resume and cover letter. Most word processing software have resume templates you can use if you have never written one before.

  3. Step 3

Look for a sales internship. There are many ways to find an internship. At your college you can contact career services, your advisor, the alumni office or you can attend an internship fair. Tell everyone one you that know you are looking for an internship. You can also visit the websites of companies you are interested in. There are also internship websites that specialize in locating internship opportunities.

  4. Step 4

Apply for your internship. Internships have become quite competitive. Be aware that there may be many people applying for "your" internship. Be professional, polite, courteous and friendly.

  5. Step 5

Follow up with the companies you applied for. Call a few days after you have applied and make sure they have recieived your information. Follow up with your interview by writing a thank you letter to the interviewer. A few days after you have sent the thank you letter, call again to be sure the interviewer received it. Be persistent, but not annoying. Let the companies know that you are interested.

Tips & Warnings
  • Because there is so much competition for sales internships, apply for more than one to increase your odds of finding the right one for you.
