More than 10 percent of American couples battle with infertility problems. Treatment options for these couples include in vitro fertilization, adoption, surrogacy and fertility drug treatments. The egg donor program is a good option for some couples. Finding a suitable donor can be a frightening process, but with some support and determination, the end result will be your next bundle of joy.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Research fertility clinics in your area. To find local clinics you can look in the telephone book, ask your doctor, query friends or look online (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Visit at least two fertility clinics and ask for information and a reference list. Most clinics keep a reference list of women who have gone through the process there.

  3. Step 3

Call the women on the reference list. Ask for details about their experience with the clinic's staff and about the process in general. You can also go online to forums and read other women's experiences with egg donation (see Resources below).

  4. Step 4

Choose the clinic that best meets your needs. Review the donor program's pricing with the clinic before you proceed.

  5. Step 5

Pick an egg donor. The clinic will provide you with a list of donors. This list will have information about each donor's test results, physical features and genetic history.

  6. Step 6

Fertilize the egg. The fertility clinic will now combine the egg with either your partner's or a donor's sperm. Once this is complete, the embryos will be inserted into your uterus (or a surrogate's) by in vitro fertilization.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be thorough with your research to ensure the best outcome.
  • Read the donor's information at least twice to make sure you did not miss anything.
  • This process can be very costly. Review and research all fees before committing.
  • In vitro fertilization does not always work. Discuss possible risks you may encounter with your doctor before beginning the process.
