Step1
Use the Web site of the Louisiana Department of Education as your primary resource (see the Who Can Help section below) as you work toward your teaching certification.
Step2
Complete a degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Step3
Complete content and pedagogy tests (Praxis I: Principles of Learning and Teaching). Complete content assessment tests (Praxis II) in the areas you plan to teach.
Step4
Finish the application process and receive a Level 1 Professional Certificate. This is good for 3 years.
Step5
Teach for 3 years and pass the Louisiana Teacher Assistance and Assessment Program. You will then receive a Level 2 Certificate.
Step6
Meet the criteria for licensing if you are from out of state. You must have an out-of-state license and pass the appropriate Praxis examinations OR provide evidence of at least 4 years of successful teaching experience. Complete 1 year of employment as a teacher in a Louisiana public school and secure a recommendation from the superintendent of that school system.
