Follow these steps to learn how to get a teaching license in the state of Georgia.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Use the Web site of the Georgia Professional Standards Commission as your primary resource as you work toward your teaching license.

  2. Step 2

Complete a bachelor's degree in education at a regionally accredited college or university.

  3. Step 3

Complete the content assessment portion of the credentialing process if you are an initial applicant. This includes the Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators (GACE, see Who Can Help below), which is an entire program administered by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) and in part designed by the National Evaluation Systems (NES).

  4. Step 4

Obtain a license through reciprocity if you are an out-of-state applicant. Georgia is an active member of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification. This means that teachers in all U.S. states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories and teachers in the Department of Defense Education (DoDEA) are eligible for licensure if they meet certain conditions.

  5. Step 5

Collect documents that verify the conditions for reciprocity. These include a professional certificate stating that you have met the requirements in the state you come from, evidence of a bachelor's degree or higher and evidence that you meet or are exempt from special Georgia requirements.
