The kitchen sink is one of the dirtiest places in your house. You put food in it, dishes, clothing and sometimes dirty pets and babies. Daily cleaning and disinfecting is necessary to prevent the spread of germs. You don't have to use toxic cleaners to keep your sink clean. White vinegar disinfects, removes odors and shines the surface. Baking soda is a gentle nonabrasive cleaner, and lemon is a pleasant smelling stain remover.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Remove all dishes from the sink and rinse them with water to remove all food particles.
Step2
Cut a lemon in half and sprinkle baking soda on the cut ends. Scrub sink stains with the lemon half. Reapply baking soda to the lemon as needed.
Step3
Freshen the garbage disposal by pushing used lemons down into it and running it for a few seconds.
Step4
Pour 1 cup of baking soda followed by 1 cup of vinegar down a drain without a disposal to get rid of odors and clogs. Turn on the hot water and allow to flush the drain for a minute.
Step5
Soak a sponge in undiluted vinegar and wipe down the sink to disinfect and shine it.
Step6
Fill a spray bottle with one part vinegar and one part water. Spray the faucet and handles to disinfect them. Wipe them dry and buff them to a shine with a dry paper towel.
Step7
Repeat the process daily to keep the sink clean and free of germs.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the bottom of the sink is badly stained, line it with paper towels. Pour vinegar in the sink to saturate the towels and allow them to sit overnight. The next morning remove the towels and wipe the sink clean.
  • If you have hard water deposits around your faucet, soak paper towels in vinegar. Wrap them around the faucet and leave them on overnight. Remove the towels in the morning and rinse the faucet clean.
