How to Plan a Day Trip to Murano From Venice. The unique city of Venice, Italy was built on a conglomeration of tiny islands in the Adriatic Sea. What people often forget is that other small islands nearby are also home to some interesting places. The island of Murano, famous for its glass artists, is one such place. If you are in Venice, consider making a quick day trip to this quaint island to see the glassblowers work their magic.
Plan to spend an entire day on the island. While the ride to Murano is not long, the island is enjoyable enough for a daylong visit. You may find yourself wanting to visit other nearby islands such as Burano as well.
Check the schedule for the water bus and buy tickets at the San Marcos Vaporetto Ticket Station. This is where the boat to Murano launches.
Bring money for some Murano glass. Glasswork is this island's claim to fame and you will definitely want to buy a piece. You can buy something small for relatively little cash but more elaborate works can be expensive.
Get off the boat at the Colonna stop. This is the best place to start your visit to Murano. When you step off, turn right. This is the way to the great glass shops.
Visit a glass factory and watch the glassblowers work.
Hop over to the little island of Burano. This island is known for its lacework. Here you can see women making lace and the village is colorful and interesting.
At the end of the day, take the Varporetto back to Venice.
