In Oklahoma, voter registration applications are available at county election board offices, post offices, tag agencies, libraries and many other public locations. You will be offered a voter registration application if you get your driver's license or apply for government assistance. You may submit your voter registration application form at any time. However, voter identification cards cannot be issued during the 24 days prior to an election. Register to vote by following these simple steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Voter registration application
  • Mailing address (residential; not a P.O. box)
  • Acceptable form of identification
Step1
Meet the criteria to register. A voter must be at least 18 years of age, a U.S. citizen and a resident of Oklahoma.
Step2
Fill out a voter registration application form. You may download an application form or send a request to receive a form by U.S. Mail. The application form asks for your name and address, your political affiliation, your birthdate and your driver's license number or (if no driver's license) the last four digits of your Social Security number.
Step3
Sign and date the oath printed on the form. By signing the voter registration application form, you are swearing that you are eligible to register to vote.
Step4
Submit your voter registration application to the Oklahoma State Election Board by mail. The card is already addressed, but you must add a first-class postage stamp.
Step5
Receive your voter identification card in the mail.
Step6
Check your identification card carefully for errors. Report any errors to the county election board immediately.
Step7
Keep your voter identification card in a safe place, and always take it with you when you go to vote.

Tips & Warnings

  • You do not become a registered voter until the county election board in your county of residence has approved your application.
  • In most cases, voter registration is permanent. However, some voter registrations are canceled.
  • A person who has been convicted of a felony may not register until a period equal to the original judgment and sentence has expired.
  • You must change your voter registration if you change your address, your name or your political affiliation. You will have to fill out another voter registration application.
  • If your voter registration application is not approved, you will receive a letter from the county election board explaining the reason and the steps you must take to address the problem.
