The Arizona bar examination is administered through the Arizona Supreme Court committees on Examinations and Character and Fitness. Because the test is offered twice a year only, it is essential that the bar application is completed accurately. Applying for the Arizona bar exam requires the timely filing of a general application. A separate character and fitness background investigation may be conducted after the bar exam is taken.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Acquaint yourself with the rules for admission set forth in the Arizona Rules of the Supreme Court, Rules 33 through 38, to make sure you are eligible to sit for the upcoming bar examination.

  2. Step 2

Obtain the application for admission through the Arizona Supreme Court Web site (see Who Can Help below).

  3. Step 3

Review the application deadlines for your desired test date and commit your schedule to submitting the application in a timely manner.

  4. Step 4

Fill in all sections of the Arizona application for admission directly online and print your completed application. Double-check for errors and omissions.

  5. Step 5

Attach to your application the required fee, evidence of graduation (which may be supplemented at a later date), a current passport-size photograph, an FBI fingerprint card, an authorization and release form, a laptop registration form (if desired) and certificates of good standing from other jurisdictions, if necessary.

  6. Step 6

Get your authorization and release form and completed application notarized.

  7. Step 7

Mail your application well within the stated deadline for the desired bar exam.

  8. Step 8

Complete your Character Report and return the original to the Committee on Character and Fitness well in advance of your anticipated admission to the state bar.

  9. Step 9

Ensure your application is supplemented with evidence of law school graduation, if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Character Report is not required to sit for the bar examination. However, it must be completed and reviewed prior to your admission to the bar. Processing generally takes at least three to four months.
  • Application fees may be paid by personal check, money order, VISA or MasterCard.
  • Keep a copy of the application for your records.
  • Faxed or scanned copies of the bar application will not be accepted.
