Indianapolis is a very accessible city for both its inhabitants and tourists. Indiana's capital city is often called the "Crossroads of America," because major roads, bodies of water and railroads connect the city and the state with the rest of the United States. The 12th largest city in the country, Indianapolis may be best known for its famous sports reputation, from the Indianapolis 500 to its deep connection with college basketball. Step1
Take a tour of the Indiana Statehouse, created in 1888 and extensively renovated a century later. The renaissance revival architecture includes a dome of stained glass and decorative balcony. This beautiful building is still in use by the state's senate, house of representatives and supreme court.
Step2
Grab the young ones and visit the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the biggest museum in the world dedicated to kids. The goal of the museum is to become a vital part of the lives of the children of Indianapolis through its exhibits of history, science, arts and culture. Step3
Stop in for a performance at the Asante Children's Theatre, whose goal is to enhance the lives and talents of African-American youth. Performances are open to the public. Call (317) 635-7211 for more information.
Step4
Race over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and visit the Hall of Fame Museum, a national historic landmark dedicated to chronicling automobiles and auto racing. Located at the home of the Indy 500, it has a unique collection of racing paraphernalia dating back to the first race in 1911.
Step5
Take a walking tour through 555 acres at the Crown Hill Cemetery. Over 185,000 Indianans are buried there, including governors, mayors, a former president and an infamous bank robber. Call (317) 925-8231 for information.

Fly over to the American Super Heroes Museum, a tribute to the impact of cartooning on society. The museum has games, toys and other treasures, including costumes worn by superheroes on screen. The museum is conveniently located in downtown Indianapolis.
