How to Calculate Volume of a Cube

A cube is a three-dimensional solid with all 3 dimensions the same length. You measure the volume of a cube in cubic units of measurement. You can calculate the volume of a cube using these few short and simple steps.

Things You'll Need

• Cube
• Calculator (if needed)

Instructions

1. Measure the length of 1 of the dimensions. It does not matter which dimension you measure because all dimensions are equal.

2. Multiply the dimension 3 times. If the measurement is 3 inches, you would multiply 3 inches by 3 inches by 3 inches.

3. Write you answer in the proper cubic unit of measurement.

Tips & Warnings

• If you know the volume of the cube and need to find a missing dimension, work the problem backwards. Take the volume and divide it by each dimension given until you have the missing dimension.

• For a complicated shape, break it down into smaller parts. Determine the volume of smaller parts, and then combine them (by adding) to find the volume of the entire shape.
