Jujitsu is a Japanese martial art that involves grappling without weapons. It incorporates chokes, holds, throws and limb locks to overcome or disable your opponent. There are hundreds of different jujitsu techniques, and the armbar is one of the most popular and dangerous.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Training partner
  1. Step 1

Start with the opponent in your guard. This is a position where you can manipulate your opponent's body weight.

  2. Step 2

Decide which arm of your opponent you want to trap, and pull it close to your chest. Keep a solid grip and pressure on the outside part of the arm.

  3. Step 3

Slide your foot onto their hip and keep pressure on that side of their body with the inner part of your leg. This helps to maintain control of the trapped arm.

  4. Step 4

Bring the opposite leg up high towards their head. This keeps the other fighter from rising up and away from the danger. Make sure to keep pressure on the other fighter's back. This will keep them from slipping away from you.

  5. Step 5

Rotate your hips away from the trapped arm so you are lined up with the arm. Keep the fighter's thumb on their trapped arm pointing up.

  6. Step 6

Push your opponent's head down and away from you. This will keep you from getting hit and will help you with the next step.

  7. Step 7

Throw your leg--the one that has been keeping pressure on your opponent's trapped arm--over their head.

  8. Step 8

Point your feet down after the leg slides over the other fighter's head. At the same time, push your hips forward and up. This should cause your opponent to fall onto their back.

  9. Step 9

Maintain pressure on your opponent's shoulder by squeezing with your legs and knees.

  10. Step 10

Thrust your hips forward and arch your back. This will put a tremendous amount of pressure on the other fighter's arm and force them to tap or have their arm broken.

Tips & Warnings
  • Practice this technique over and over again. It takes many repetitions to master, but is an extremely useful and dangerous weapon once you have it mastered.
  • Be careful! You can severely injure a sparring partner when practicing this technique. You should never apply full pressure in a training session. In a mixed martial arts fight, you should relieve pressure as soon as the referee signals that the fight is over.
