How to Get to the Aran Islands Ireland

The Aran Islands are a group of three exceptionally beautiful islands off the west coast of Ireland. There are several ruins of Iron Age forts and you will be able to hear Irish spoken, as well as Irish music played in the very few pubs. The world famous hand loomed Aran sweater was originally knitted here. It is well worth the effort getting to the islands and the travel is easy if you follow a few simple steps.

Instructions

1. Fly to Galway, Ireland. This is the easiest place to start your adventure.

2. Take a coach to Galway Harbour.

3. Go to the tourist office and ask them for the ticket details about the Aran Islands.

4. Choose between taking the plane or the ferry to the islands. You can take one of these one way and use the other for your return journey and experience both modes of transportation.

5. Proceed along the coastline to the Aran Islands Airport, which is sponsored by Aran Airlines.

6. Buy a ticket from the desk for the six-seater plane and also purchase your return. You can also book your return on the ferry from the airport.

7. Fly to the Islands!

Tips & Warnings

• Book in advance to get your preferred form of transport.

• If you have the opportunity to hire a vehicle, the drive to the ferry or airport is exquisite.

• Rent a bike on the Island.

• For anyone with a fear of flying, this is not for you. The planes are very safe but very small!

• Be careful to book a return to Galway, Ireland. Flights and ferries do not operate late in the evenings.
