Get an overview of New York's lemon law codes by visiting the lemon law pages of the Better Business Bureau Web site (see Resources below).

Go to the New York State Web site (see Resources below). The Attorney General's Office has printable brochures about Lemon Laws.
Step3
Visit a public library or contact the state government to acquire a copy of the legal documents that specify the state's lemon laws. They exist in two documents: the New York Used Car Lemon Law Statutes and the New York New Car Lemon Law Statues.
Step4
Be aware that if you purchase a car in "as is" condition, the Lemon Law doesn't apply in New York.

Know that the New York New Car Lemon Bill of Rights asserts that, in addition to the warranties provided by the manufacturer, a new car purchased and registered in New York State is automatically covered by a warranty against material defects for a period of two years or 18,000 miles, whichever comes first.
