There's nothing more romantic than being at a mountain overlook. The top of the hill, looking down over the landscape at sunset is a moment like no other - and the perfect setting for a romantic proposal.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Is there a mountain overlook where the two of you have spent time? If so, that may be the perfect setting for your proposal; if not, you'll want to look at a few mountains in the area and find the one with the setting that seems right to you.
Step2
Work out the details of getting there. If there's a road to the top, you'll be able to drive; if not, how long is the hike? These details will help you to know when you'll need to leave to be at the overlook for sunset or the time that you choose to make your proposal.
Step3
Figure out what else you'll need. Want to have a picnic at the overlook? You'll need to figure out which foods/drinks to take. Want to have a bottle of champagne available? You'll need to determine how to carry it along with glasses to have it available.
Step4
Now that you've worked out the location and what you'll need to bring with you, it's time to think about how you are going to propose. Make notes about what's important to you; look at resources available online that can give you ideas for how to frame a proposal that she'll never forget.
Step5
Practice your proposal. You're going to be nervous, why worry that you'll say all the wrong things?
Step6
Set a date. It's up to you to decide whether you want to drop hints about why you want to go, but make sure that the two of you have plans for that timeframe so that nothing comes up and keeps it from happening.
Step7
Need to do some setup ahead of time? Enlist a friend who you trust to get to the area ahead of time and do the setup for you.
Step8
Pick up your girlfriend, travel to the spot and, when the time is right, make your proposal.

Tips & Warnings

  • Things don't always go exactly the way that you plan them - if something goes wrong, take it in stride and try not to let it upset you. The most important thing is to make sure that you're both comfortable and having a good time.
  • Any outdoor proposal could have weather issues; if it's raining or the time isn't right, make another date soon after and try again.
