How to color sand (with food coloring)?

Coloured sand can be used for artwork, floral arrangements, or other decorative purposes. Make a rainbow of different colours!

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase some fine white sand. Many craft supply stores, such as Michaels, sell this.

    • 2

Place the sand in an old blender or food processor along with 1-2 drops of your chosen food colouring. Blend thoroughly.

    • 3

Keep adding 1-2 drops of food colouring at a time and repeat blending until you get the desired amount of colour.

    • 4

If your sand becomes too wet, you will need to set it onto a piece of cardboard to dry out for awhile before storing.

    • 5

Store each colour of sand separately in a glass container with a cork. The cork is important so that the sand does not become hard. Every once in awhile, shake the jar to keep it from turning to "stone"!
