Although they don't last as long as oil-based ones, water-based lubricants provide good personal lubrication with less of a chance of irritation. They are also safe to use with latex contraceptives such as condoms and dams. Learn how to use a water-based sex lubricant by following these simple steps.

  1. Step 1

    Find some lubrication. Specialty stores offer a wide variety of personal water-based lubricants. Regular pharmacies also typically carry a few basic types of water-based lubricant.

  2. Step 2

    Choose a type, color or flavor depending on your attitude.

  3. Step 3

    Keep the lubricant handy. Store the lubricant in a cool, dry place close to the bed, in your bag, or where ever else you're likely need it.

  4. Step 4

    Apply the lubricant and in moderate amounts and spread it around a bit. A little bit can go a long way, so don't over do it. Adjust the quantity to achieve the desired sensation.

Tips & Warnings
  • Water-based lubricants can be used safely with all types of sexual toys, even if they are made from latex or silicone. Oil-based lubricants will degrade latex and should never be used in combination with condoms.
