These days, green tea is appearing everywhere as the latest, greatest drink. You may even see it as an additive in items like deodorant and skin creams. Green tea is rich in EGCg, which is a powerful antioxidant. Green tea is different than other teas in the way it is processed. The leaves are steamed which keeps the antioxidant from being oxidized or transformed into other compounds. To begin enjoying some of the health benefits green tea can offer, take a look below for some helpful suggestions.

Things You'll Need:

  2. Step 2

Bring a kettle or pan of cold water to a boil.

  3. Step 3

Pour the hot water into a cup with one tea bag. Allow the tea to steep for 3 minutes.

  4. Step 4

Remove the tea bag from the cup, and allow the tea to cool for 3 more minutes.

To make your own iced green tea, brew green tea leaves in a jar of water, and cool in the refrigerator.

  7. Step 7

Serve your tea as is or add your own citrus flavoring or honey.

Tips & Warnings
  • There is conflicting data on the amount of green tea to be consumed in a day's time. It is a safe recommendation to drink 4 to 5 cups per day to enjoy the many benefits it can offer.
  • Pay attention to your caffeine intake. A cup of green tea contains about 40 mg. of caffeine versus 85 mg. in a cup of coffee.
  • Green tea has been known to help with the following medical conditions: cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease, infection and fatty diets.
  • Don't mistake herbal teas as green tea. Some herbal teas aren't even teas at all, but rather infusions made with herbs, roots or plants.
  • Do not overbrew green tea. The same ingredients that provide the health benefits can also make the drink bitter or grassy.
