For most people, caffeine is the drug of choice to help you get going or offer a little pick-me-up throughout the day. Caffeine is a mild stimulant, but if it is consumed in large quantities it can have an adverse effect on your health over time. If you would like to reduce your caffeine intake, here are a few suggestions to help you reach your goal.

  1. Step 1

    For several days, keep a small journal to write down the drinks and food you consume throughout an average day. Take particular note of coffee, tea and sodas.

  2. Step 2

    Begin reducing your caffeine intake gradually.

  3. Step 3

    Fill a cup of coffee with half-caffeinated and half-decaffeinated brew. Continue to decrease the caffeine until you are drinking only decaffeinated coffee.

  4. Step 4

    Brew tea using decaffeinated tea bags or substitute with an herbal tea that is naturally decaffeinated.

  5. Step 5

    Replace sodas with a caffeine-free version or substitute with water or flavored water.

  6. Step 6

    Read labels. Many over-the-counter medications and pain killers contain caffeine, so be aware of the sources.
