How to Use Ripe Bananas

Buying all those bananas seemed like a good idea. They were on sale. They were green. You had all the time in the world. But they were only yellow a little while. Now that they're turning black and getting squishy, they can be used in the following ways.

  • Blender
  • Recipes
  • Ripe bananas
  1. Step 1

    Bake something: banana bread, muffins, cake, waffles or pancakes. This is a classic use for ripe bananas.

  2. Step 2

    Peel the bananas and place them in a blender to make a banana smoothie. You can make it with milk, yogurt, ice cream, frozen strawberries and many other items.

  3. Step 3

    Blend up banana daiquiris.

  4. Step 4

    Cook bananas foster. This is one of the quickest and easiest ways to use them up.

    Make homemade banana ice cream.

  6. Step 6

    Freeze the bananas. Leave the peels on and place in a freezer bag. Thaw them out when needed. Freezing them will soften their texture so you'll want to use them in banana bread and the like.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can slow down the ripening process by putting bananas in the refrigerator. The skins will turn black but they will taste good for a while.
  • Use a cookbook or an Internet recipe site to find numerous recipes for cooking with bananas.
  • Black and shriveled bananas you'd never eat fresh can be used in baking. They're actually the best for that purpose, with an intense ripe banana flavor. So don't toss them out unless they're moldy.
